The Utopia Machine
„To tell about the non-existent, we need the help of the subjunctive, the fairytale, the noble intent, the devout lie and the utopian.” Wolf Schneider

A computer browses through the internet, searching for the word „utopia“, copying the sentence containing the word, sending it to printer which directly leads into a document shredder. After 108 days, the office is filled with 16.000 pages of shredded paper.



Die Utopiemaschine
Ein Computer sucht im Internet nach dem Wort Utopie, kopiert den betreffenden Satz und sendet ihn an den Nadeldrucker, der kontinuierlich Sätze auswirft und mit dem vorhandenen Textmaterial einen Shredder füttert. Nach 108 Ausstellungstagen füllt sich das Büro mit 16.000 Seiten geschreddertem Papier. Der Betrachter kann nur über eine Leiter von oben in die weiße Box auf den Arbeitsplatz blicken. Drei Videos in unterschiedlichen Zeitabständen zeigen den vermeintlichen Konstrukteur der Maschine und wie er mit dem produzierten Material fertig zu werden sucht.
