ZEITIGT BREITENWIRKUNG ... Seit mittlerweile dreieinhalb Jahren treffen in Trogen per Post oder per persönlicher Übermittlung Pakete ein, Boxen mit den Höchstmassen 420 x 210 x 210 mm, individuell verpackt, Wundertüten von Daniele Buetti, Pascale Grau, Silvie Defraoui, Andy Guhl, Christoph Rütimann, Fritz Hauser, Boris Nieslony, Dorothea Rust, Christian Zehnder, Fischli / Weiss, Muda Mathis, Katharina Vogel, Norbert Klassen, Micha Stuhlmann, Katja Schenker, Marcus Gossolt, Chantal Michel, Ulrich Gasser, San Keller und vielen mehr. Der kleinste gemeinsame Nenner dieser Boxen ist die Paketform: Die Inhalte zeigen die Interdisziplinarität der internationalen zeitgenössischen Kunstszene, die sich entlang der Schnittstellen von Performance, Aktion, Tanz, Stimme, Klang, Wort, Video, Film und Rauminstallation bewegt. Hinter jedem einzelnen Paket steckt eine Versandeinladung durch René Schmalz. Den Anfang machte die Box von Roman Signer; Ende 2006 umfasste die Sammlung 126 Boxen, die alle in der Originalverpackung wie Bücher im Magazin eingereiht sind und eine Signatur tragen. Das Stichwort wie Bücher leitet über zur Nutzung der Objekte in der Bibliothek. Es ist nicht das Moment der Magazinierung, mit dem sich das Kunstobjekt von der Bildfläche verabschiedet - eben gerade nicht: Der Schauwerk-Besucher oder Nutzer wählt aufgrund des Online-Katalogs ein Paket, das ihn anspricht, oder er kommt in den Lesesaal und sagt: "Bitte bringen Sie mir die Nummer 67." Dabei weiss er nicht, was die Nummer 67 ist, sondern er wählt diese Nummer zufällig oder weil es eine Zahl ist, die er besonders gerne mag, oder es ist sein Geburtsjahr. Er bekommt dieses Paket und hat nun die Möglichkeit, den Inhalt ganz individuell zu entdecken, zu «lesen» und sich darauf einzulassen.

HOWS LARGE IMPACT ... During the last three and a half years envelopes and parcels have been arriving via mail in Trogen or been handed over personally. Formats of 420 x 210 x 210 mm are accepted. Regularly wrapped in an individual style some of them are real surprise packets which among others have been packed by Daniele Buetti, Pascale Grau, Silvie Defraoui, Andy Guhl, Christoph Rütimann, Fritz Hauser, Boris Nieslony - Black Market, Dorothea Rust, Christian Zehnder, Fischli / Weiss, Muda Mathis, Katharina Vogel, Norbert Klassen, Micha Stuhlmann, Katja Schenker, Marcus Gossolt, Chantal Michel, Ulrich Gasser, San Keller and others. The package form is the lowest common denominator: The contents provides evidence of the interdisciplinary interfaces of Performance, Art Action, dance, voice, sound, writing, video, film and Installation Art connecting the global network of contemporary art. Every box relates to an invitation of René Schmalz. Starting with the box of Roman Signer the collection contains 126 pieces by the beginning of 2007. All are kept in original packaging, have a signature, and are stocked in shelves like books. "Like books" may be the keyword for the use of the pieces in the library. When the objects are taken into stock they do not disappear, but on the contrary they are made available for the public use of the visitors of the Schauwerk. Every user can make a choice individually in the online catalogue and may order a piece by its number. If you choose for example 67 randomly or prefer to give your date of birth, the corresponding package will be delivered and the discovery by unpacking, assorting, and reading starts.
